Nankunda Hope, Uganda
Nankunda is a teacher and counsellor by profession with 16 years’ experience working closely with students in schools and parents in communities. She is the founder and Executive Director of Raising Teenagers-Uganda, a non-profit that works to create safe spaces for young people with strong emphasis on Menstrual Hygiene Management for girls as well as guidance and counselling services for young people in schools and communities. Celebrated as a change maker, her mission in life is to empower the girl child by advocating for their right to education and good health.
Nankunda also coordinates the Central Region in Uganda under Girls Not Brides Uganda, an alliance of over 100 civil society organisations from across Uganda working to end child marriage in the country. She is also a member of the National Steering Committee for Parenting Agenda for Uganda hosted by the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social aimed at promoting Positive Parenting. She is a mother, a mentor, a trainer and a human rights activist.
Her work focuses on addressing Sustainable development Goal 4 – Quality Education and Goal 5 – Gender Equality. Education is the only weapon we can use to change this world and make it a better place and it must be for all.
