The National Partnership to Address Child, Early and Forced Marriages and Unions in Guatemala was launched in July 2022 and is the first National Partnership in Latin American and the Caribbean. It comprises more than 20 civil society organisations and individuals with longstanding experience in promoting the human rights of girls and adolescents in Guatemala.
The National Partnership emerged in response to the situation in the country, where 30 per cent of girls marry or enter a union before the age of 18. This makes Guatemala the country with the fifth highest prevalence of child marriage in the region.
The National Partnership’s objective is to encourage collective action by government and civil society to promote public policies that create the right conditions for girls and adolescents to make free choices about their bodies, lives and futures.
