Successes
Girls Not Brides Burkina Faso has been an effective partner to the government since the development phase of the national strategy to end child marriage (2016-2025), and has aligned its own collective objectives to the country’s. The National Partnership actively contributes to the multi-sectoral platform on ending child marriage spearheaded by the government, drawing from the expertise of its varied membership. Girls Not Brides Burkina Faso is taking important steps to raise the legal age of marriage to 18 for girls without exception. The National Partnership seeks to drive change through decentralised advocacy towards community, traditional and religious leaders, using the media.
Structure
Girls Not Brides Burkina Faso is coordinated by Association d’Appui et d’Eveil Pugsada (ADEP), ONG Voix de Femmes (VdF) and Mouvement Burkinabé des Droits de l'Homme et des Peuples (MBDHP). Since 2018, thirteen regional coordinators were appointed to leverage the work of members and ensure an effective communication flow between the steering committee and members based across the country. In addition, five working groups were created to strengthen and scale up collective activities in: advocacy, youth engagement, communications, resource mobilisation, and monitoring & evaluation.
