Nike Foundation video: The Girl Effect
The Nike Foundation’s video “The Girl Effect: The Clock is Ticking” brings to life the alternative futures girls face when they reach adolescence – and the impact child marriage has on their life chances.
The Girl Effect proposes that girls living in poverty are uniquely capable of creating a better future, but when a girl reaches adolescence, she comes to a crossroads.
Things can go one of two ways for her and everyone around her. She can get educated, stay healthy and HIV negative, marry when she chooses and raise a healthy family…OR…she remains illiterate, is married off, is isolated, is pregnant and is vulnerable to HIV.
They present the stories of Addis in Ethiopia, Anitia in India, Kidan in Ethiopia, Sanchita in Bangladesh and Shumi in Bangladesh.
The Nike Foundation asks us to imagine that the world can be changed by girls.
