No way out: child marriage and human rights abuses in Tanzania

In Tanzania, four out of ten girls are married before their eighteenth birthday. In this report, Human Rights Watch looks at the impact of child marriage on a girls’ education and health, and documents how girls who marry young are taken out of school and are exposed to increased levels of violence and exploitation.

The report critically examines the gaps in Tanzania’s child protection system and the policies and laws aimed at preventing child marriage. In doing so it exposes shortcomings in the lack of protection available for girls and those wanting to obtain redress.
