In humanitarian settings, issues of sexual violence have received international attention. However, other forms of gender-based violence (GBV) have also occurred during crisis and displacement, and during and following return. In particular, forms of violence that affect adolescent girls, such as child marriage, have emerged as especially necessary to address.
These guidelines aims to provide standards for good practice to ensure that GBV survivors receive quality services in humanitarian settings. Chapter 3 (p.117) looks at how caseworkers can support girls at risks of child marriage and girls who are already married.
These guidelines have been informed by GBV interventions piloted in Central African Republic, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Niger and Somalia, and led by experts including the International Medical Corps, International Rescue Commitee, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNHCR.
There also exist materials to support staff in carrying out training on the content of these guidelines (see page 52 of the facilitator guide for module 16 on child marriage).
