Building the Assets to Thrive is a comprehensive review of three programmes launched by the Population Council and the Ethiopian government to protect girls and young women from HIV and build their protective assets.
Two programmes work directly with girls (married and out of school urban girls). The third works with husbands to tackle a range of issues including violence, alcohol abuse and extramarital relationships as well as promoting care giving and encouraging gender equitable roles within the household.
The report illustrates the range of programmatic responses required to improve the lives of the most vulnerable girls in the poorest areas of Ethiopia.
