Adolescent Marriage in Nepal: A Subregional Level Analysis

This study shows that there is significant variance in the rates of child marriage at the sub regional level in Nepal.

This report provides a useful analysis of the variance of child marriage at the sub regional level in Nepal. It shows that:


  • overall 9% of boys and girls aged 10-19 are currently married: 4% of boys and 15% of girls

  • rates are significantly higher in the Western Mountain, Mid-Western Hill, and Central Terai
    areas

  • child marriage is higher among poorer households and dowry is one of the main drivers in high prevalence areas
