This UNICEF brief presents data on trends in child marriage in Africa between 2010 and 2015. Specifically it shows that:


  • Rates of child marriage have declined slightly in most regions, but progress is uneven.

  • Some countries have achieved dramatic declines, including Ethiopia, Zambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Rwanda.

  • However, the rate of progress in the region as a whole needs to substantially increase in order to eliminate child marriage by 2030.
