Child marriage often drives adolescent pregnancy and has negative impacts on the health and wellbeing of adolescent girls and young women, and their children. Ending child marriage, enhancing access to quality, stigma-free, affordable sexual and reproductive health services and respecting sexual and reproductive health and rights will significantly enhance the health and development outcomes for millions of children, adolescents and women around the world.
Join this Girls Not Brides online Learning Series session to explore what we can do to address SRHR and child marriage together!
SRHR and child marriage in practice: Promising approaches and practical steps for advocacy
Thursday, 25 July 2024
7am Mexico City / 2pm London / 4pm Nairobi / 6.30pm New Delhi
Simultaneous interpretation in English, French, Hindi and Spanish
This webinar will be a space to learn about:
- The links between SRHR and child marriage.
- What Girls Not Brides member organisations are doing to address the SRHR needs of girls at risk of child marriage and/or who are – or have been – married.
- Key recommendations from our forthcoming thematic brief, and practical steps on using them in your advocacy.
It is 30 years since the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action was adopted in Cairo. Now with the Sustainable Development Goals deadline only six years away, we need a comprehensive, rights-based, gender-transformative and multi-sectoral approach to end child marriage and respect, protect and fulfil girls’ and women’s SRHR.
By fostering strong partnerships, we can ensure that all girls can decide if, when and with whom to engage in sexual activity, marry and have children, and can negotiate safe sexual practices and access appropriate and quality SRHR services.
