Mariell is a specialist in developing communications strategies and implementing campaigns to defend human rights. For more than seven years she has worked as a journalist and communications specialist in different civil society organisations, public institutions and media outlets. As Communications Officer at Girls Not Brides, Mariell will implement the regional communications strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Prior to joining Girls Not Brides, Mariell worked as Strategic Communications Lead at a Mexican civil society organisation that uses data and technology for the defence of human rights. Their primary aim was to contribute to ending gender-based and femicide violence, and the search for missing persons.
Mariell has a Masters in Humanistic Studies with a specialisation in Artistic and Literary Discourses where she specialised in Feminist Theory and Feminist Literary Theory. She has published academic, journalistic and informative content based on research into cultural and social issues from a gender perspective and using mixed methods of analysis.
For Mariell, telling stories and humanising data and technical information is an essential part of advocacy to defend human rights.
