As the Social Media and Communications Officer, Gabriela is responsible for developing and delivering the Girls Not Brides' multi-channel social media plan, that effectively shows the impact of Girls Not Brides' work, amplifies and engages with the membership, and supports the communications and secretariat strategies.
Gabriela has lived in eight countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, North America and Europe and this – alongside past work experience – has led to her interest in communications within development. Gabriela is passionate about human rights, with a focus on female empowerment and opportunities.
Prior to joining Girls Not Brides, she worked at Fundación Acción Joven in Costa Rica, supporting them to advocate for and support girls’ educational rights and opportunities. She also worked in Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (based in Spain). These roles provided her with tools to raise engagement across various communication platforms, effectively and efficiently communicating organisational missions and values.
Gabriela holds a BA in International Development (with French for Professional Purposes) and a MA in Media Practices for Development and Social Change. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
