Author: Sophia Chae and Thoia Ngo Organisation: Population Council Year: 2017

This systematic review looks at the successfulness of interventions to prevent child marriage used in the last 20 years, grouped by type: empowerment, schooling, community and economic assistance. It finds that:

  • Increasingly, packages of intervention types are being used, rather than single interventions
  • Empowerment approaches were the most successful
  • Economic approaches were the least successful
  • Few studies give details of cost or scalability
