This systematic review looks at the successfulness of interventions to prevent child marriage used in the last 20 years, grouped by type: empowerment, schooling, community and economic assistance. It finds that:


  • Increasingly, packages of intervention types are being used, rather than single interventions

  • Empowerment approaches were the most successful

  • Economic approaches were the least successful

  • Few studies give details of cost or scalability
