"Most girls in my village are married before 18." Report on obstacles to education for girls in North Shewa, Amhara, Ethiopia
Written by the International Child Development Initiative (ICDI), this report presents findings and recommendations to promote girls' education and prevent child marriage in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The research identifies child marriage as a key driver of school dropouts among girls and insists that changing community attitudes and involving men and boys can decrease the number of child marriages. It also highlights several other factors to school dropout and calls for multiple responses to address the issue.
