This report captures key discussions and outcomes from the Africa Action Group to End Child Marriage (AAGECM) research workshop, held in Nairobi in July 2023. This convening brought together practitioners, researchers and advocates from across Africa to review the evidence on child marriage, share learning, and strengthen collaboration between research and practice.
Participants reviewed the latest data and trends, explored what’s working to prevent child marriage and support married girls, and identified key evidence gaps and research priorities. The workshop created space for reflection, knowledge exchange, and collective strategising to accelerate progress towards ending child marriage in Africa.
This report lays a strong foundation for shaping future research agendas and advocacy strategies.
About AAGECM
Established in 2019, the Africa Action Group to End Child Marriage is a pan-African platform that brings together advocates, practitioners and partners committed to ending child marriage. The group aims to foster a more strategic and cohesive approach, strengthen research and evidence use, and ensure that interventions are adapted to local contexts and led by the communities they are meant to support.
