As the People and Culture HR Manager at Girls Not Brides, Lucy Mugo plays a pivotal role in shaping a dynamic, inclusive, and people-centered culture across a global team spanning the UK, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Based in Nairobi, she works closely with colleagues and leaders worldwide to create a high-performing, motivated team that can deliver on the organisation's mission.
Lucy brings over 13 years of experience in human resources, with a career spanning humanitarian organisations, UN food ration contracts, fintech, and other private sector industries. She combines strategic HR leadership with a people-first approach. Her career is defined by a central passion: creating workplaces where people can thrive. Guided by values of integrity, respect, inclusivity, and collaboration, Lucy is deeply committed to fostering wellbeing, growth, and engagement while ensuring people and culture strategies actively advance the mission of Girls Not Brides; to achieve a world without child marriage, where girls enjoy equal status with boys and men and can reach their full potential.
Fluent in English and Swahili, and currently building her proficiency in French, Lucy holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources – International™ (SPHRi™) certification from HRCI and is a Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Beyond her professional expertise, she values balance and connection, often found with a good book, tending to her home garden, enjoying time with family, or listening to a thought-provoking podcast.
