Alex Gatenby

As Development and Outreach Officer, Alex plays a key role in securing funding for the Girls Not Brides secretariat and mobilising resources for the end child marriage movement more broadly. Within the team, he leads the development of grant proposals and applications, cultivates and manages prospective and exisiting donor relationships and provides support to outreach events.

Prior to working at Girls Not Brides, Alex worked with Fundación CRAN, an organisation in Colombia which supports children whose human rights have been violated through abuse and neglect. He also has extensive bidding experience from his time working at Oxford Policy Management, an international development consultancy, where he contributed to delivering technically and commercially viable proposals in line with donor requirements.

Alex holds a BA in Modern Languages and an MA in Development Studies, where his thesis examined women’s role in the 2016 Colombian peace process and the potential power of inclusive peacemaking in driving transformative gender justice. He speaks English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
